Senior Substation Design Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Substation Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in Tucker, Georgia. This role focuses on the design and execution of heavy civil, structural, and mechanical projects with significant exposure to electrical power systems. The successful candidate will lead substation design efforts, including creating detailed drawings, specifications, and contract documents. Proficiency in AutoCAD, grounding design, and lightning protection calculations is essential. Responsibilities

• Lead design and execution of substations, focusing on physical and structural elements of electrical power substations (500kV+ large protection substations).
• Develop detailed drawings, specifications, and contract documents using AutoCAD and specialized grounding design software.
• Perform structural analysis and lightning protection calculations to ensure safety and compliance.
• Apply and adapt engineering principles and sound judgment to complex, high-impact projects.
• Conduct design reviews and contribute to the development of company design standards.
• Perform research, engineering studies, and material evaluations supporting departmental strategies.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster a collaborative team environment.
• Engage with cross-functional teams to ensure design alignment with electrical, mechanical, and civil requirements.
• Promote best practices for health, safety, diversity, equity, and inclusion in all engineering activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in substation physical design, especially with large (500kV+) protection substations.
• Extensive expertise in heavy civil, structural, and mechanical engineering with working knowledge of electrical systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and specialized grounding design software.
• Strong background in structural analysis, shielding, and lightning protection calculations.
• Proven leadership abilities in project execution and standards development.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
