Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Manager to join our dynamic, diverse, and inclusive team supporting the delivery of a large-scale, mission-critical data center development in Texas. This role is integral to the developer's on-site project team, providing mechanical commissioning leadership during a critical delivery phase. You will represent the developer, coordinating with third-party commissioning agents, contractors, and subcontractors, driving systems through advanced testing stages and final turnover. This opportunity is part of an accelerated commissioning schedule for a project comprising more than 160MW of capacity across multiple data halls. Responsibilities
Owner's Representation
- Serve as the primary mechanical commissioning lead and field contact representing the developer's interests.
- Hold third-party Commissioning Agents, General Contractors, and subcontractors accountable for deliverables.
- Maintain a consistent field presence providing transparent reporting of progress, risks, and constraints to project leadership.
Commissioning Delivery
- Lead mechanical systems through Level 3, Level 4, Integrated Systems Testing, and final turnover phases.
- Manage discipline-specific commissioning schedules to align activities with critical project milestones.
- Monitor commissioning readiness and oversee test execution, deficiency tracking, and closure.
- Identify critical issues early, escalate appropriately, and lead resolution efforts.
- Support planning and execution of functional testing, integrated testing, and handover activities.
Information & Issue Management
- Accurately maintain commissioning records in real-time using CxAlloy or equivalent systems.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of test results, issue logs, evidence, and turnover records.
- Track mechanical commissioning issues through verification and closure.
- Clearly communicate status, risks, decisions, and recovery plans to leadership and partners.
Project Coordination
- Collaborate closely with developers, commissioning agents, contractors, trade partners, design teams, and operations stakeholders.
- Integrate commissioning schedules with construction completion, quality control, and turnover requirements.
- Promote clear communication and ownership of actions across all stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Provide cross-disciplinary support where appropriate while maintaining ownership of mechanical scope.
Technical Environment
Mechanical commissioning expertise should include experience with mission-critical infrastructure such as:
- Chillers, pumps, and hydronic pipework
- CRAH and CRAC units
- Cooling Distribution Units
- Heat rejection systems and cooling towers
- HVAC plant and associated controls
- Water treatment systems
- Integrated mechanical systems testing
Qualifications
- Proven experience in mechanical commissioning for data centers or mission-critical facilities.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in Level 3 and Level 4 commissioning activities, Functional Performance Testing, and Integrated Systems Testing.
- Experience managing commissioning schedules, readiness, issue tracking, and system turnover.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate technical issue identification, escalation, and resolution effectively.
- Proficient in using commissioning platforms like CxAlloy or equivalent for documentation and reporting.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills with a commitment to fostering diverse, equitable, and inclusive teams.
- Ability to work flexibly and adapt to the demands of a high-pressure commissioning schedule.
