Position Overview
The Underground Transmission Construction Manager will support major underground transmission infrastructure programs across the San Francisco Bay Area, including projects throughout Concord, Hayward, East Bay, and South Bay utility territories. The role will support a growing portfolio of approximately 50 underground transmission projects over the next 2 years involving high-voltage underground cable systems, utility civil construction, and transmission infrastructure upgrades.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of underground utility civil construction and underground transmission cable installation experience within energized utility environments. The position will support both field execution and project coordination activities across active underground transmission construction programs ranging from 55kV-500kV systems.
This role will work closely with utility construction management teams, contractors, inspectors, engineers, and field crews to support safe, efficient, and schedule-driven project delivery across underground transmission infrastructure programs.
Key Responsibilities
* Support underground transmission construction activities across active utility infrastructure projects
* Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, inspectors, engineers, and utility field operations personnel
* Oversee underground utility civil construction including trenching, duct banks, conduit systems, vault installations, excavation activities, and underground infrastructure sequencing
* Support installation activities involving underground transmission cable systems including XLPE, pipe-type, gas-filled, and solid dielectric cable systems
* Coordinate cable installation activities including cable pulls, jointing/splicing coordination, testing, and turnover activities
* Support construction planning, schedule management, outage coordination, field execution, and contractor sequencing activities
* Conduct field walkdowns, safety observations, progress tracking, QA/QC reviews, and construction coordination meetings
* Coordinate utility ROW access, permits, environmental compliance, and stakeholder communication activities
* Review construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, schedules, and field changes to support construction execution
* Ensure construction activities comply with utility standards, project specifications, safety requirements, and quality expectations
* Work closely with utility construction leadership to identify risks, resolve field issues, and maintain schedule performance across active underground transmission programs

* XLPE / Solid Dielectric Cable Systems
* Pipe-Type / Gas-Filled Underground Cable Systems
* Voltage classes ranging from 55kV-500kV
* Underground utility civil construction
* Duct banks, conduit systems, vault installations, trenching, and excavation
* Cable pulls, cable splicing, and jointing coordination
* Energized transmission environments and outage coordination
* Utility construction management and contractor oversight
* Heavy civil underground utility infrastructure experience
* Transmission ROW and utility coordination experience
