Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer with a strong Protection & Controls (P&C) background to join our Substation Engineering team. This role will serve as an additional layer of technical review for engineering deliverables, helping ensure the quality, accuracy, and constructability of protection and control design packages before construction begins.
The successful candidate will work closely with a team of experienced engineers to review engineering documentation produced by external engineering firms and EPC partners, identify potential design issues, and provide timely feedback to prevent construction delays, outages, and rework. This position requires strong technical expertise, excellent time management skills, and the confidence to communicate concerns and recommendations to project leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Review Protection & Control (P&C) design packages for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
- Perform detailed reviews of:
- Protection and Control drawings
- Three-line diagrams
- Schematics
- Design packages
- Construction Turnover Packages
- EPC engineering deliverables
- Identify design errors, omissions, inconsistencies, and constructability concerns prior to construction activities.
- Provide clear and timely review comments to engineering firms, EPC contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Support efforts to minimize operational risks, construction issues, and potential outages resulting from design deficiencies.
- Provide oversight and quality assurance of engineering work performed by subcontractors and supplemental engineering partners.
- Collaborate closely with a team of engineers to ensure project deliverables meet utility standards and project objectives.
- Escalate identified concerns and technical issues to project leadership when necessary.
- Manage multiple reviews and priorities in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating workloads.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in substation Protection & Controls engineering or design.
- Direct Utility industry experience is required
- Strong understanding of:
- Protection & Control systems
- Substation design packages
- Three-line diagrams
- Protection schematics and wiring drawings
- Experience working with SEL relays.
- Experience reviewing engineering deliverables and identifying design issues.
- Ability to quickly integrate into projects and contribute with minimal training.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Excellent time management skills and the ability to effectively manage workloads during both high-volume and slower project periods.
- Confidence and accountability to speak up when issues are identified and communicate concerns directly to project leadership and stakeholders.
Work Schedule
- Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week
- Ability to be onsite as needed to support project activities
Team Environment
This position will join a team of nine engineers and work closely with internal engineering staff, project managers, EPC contractors, and supplemental engineering partners. Initially, the role will provide support to existing engineering staff by reviewing design packages and engineering documentation to ensure quality and reduce risk before construction begins.
