Lead Offshore Cable Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Offshore Cable Engineer to join a dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex offshore cable projects, specialising in HV/EHV submarine cable systems and marine operations. Responsibilities

  • Lead design, engineering, and installation of HV/EHV offshore and sub sea cable systems, ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards.
  • Oversee subsea cable installation engineering aspects such as cable laying, burial campaigns, cable embedment, submersible vehicle operations, vessel positioning, and commercial diving procedures.
  • Conduct technical and commercial evaluations of submarine cable systems and prepare and assess contracts related to vessels and subsea operations.
  • Manage project delivery through strong programme management skills, ensuring quality, timelines, and budget adherence for complex offshore projects.
  • Apply Health & Safety standards, including familiarity with CDMC, IMO, and IMCA requirements, maintaining high safety levels in terrestrial and offshore operations.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary and international teams and maintain strong communication and alignment with stakeholders.
  • Utilise decision-making skills to address challenges and negotiate agreements and contracts with key partners.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote an inclusive culture supporting diverse perspectives in problem-solving and innovation.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline; chartership preferred.
  • Minimum 7-10+ years of relevant experience in HV submarine cables, offshore wind farms, or transmission projects.
  • Proven experience collaborating with major cable Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) or Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors.
  • Strong knowledge of HV/EHV cable design, materials, manufacturing processes, and offshore installation engineering.
  • Proficient understanding of Health & Safety standards relevant to offshore and terrestrial cable projects.

Desirable

  • Project Management Qualification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent).
  • Experience with cable modelling tools such as CYMCAP and COMSOL.
  • Knowledge of Dynamic Thermal Rating Systems including DTS and RTTR.
  • Ability to interpret subsea survey data, including geotechnical and geophysical reports.
  • Experience in developing submarine cable design specifications and employer's requirements.
  • Understanding of offshore wind electrical systems and grid compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills within multidisciplinary, international environments.
