IBM Brings Quantum Computer Services To Europe

IBM has announced plans to open its first Europe-based Quantum Data Center, which is due for completion in 2024.

The facility will provide its clients access to cutting-edge quantum computer services using cloud technology.

The data centre will be located at IBM's existing facility in Germany.

Jacob Better, the vice president of IBM Quantum, stated

"The planned quantum data centre and Associated Cloud region will give European users a new option as they seek to tap into the power of quantum computing in an effort to solve some of the world's most challenging problems and avenues."

Intel Invests $4.6 Billion In Polish Semiconductor Facility

Intel plans to invest up to $4.6 billion in a new semiconductor assembly and test facility near Wroclaw, Poland.

The facility will employ 2000 workers and create several thousand additional jobs during the construction phase.

Design and planning for the facility will begin immediately, with construction pending European Commission approval.

Ireland Aims To Be A Datacentre Destination

Over in Ireland, recent announcements confirmed the government isn't looking to limit the number of data centres, despite new figures showing increasingly high energy use. 

New figures published by the Central Statistics Office showed datacentre power consumption in Ireland

has increased by 31% in just the last year and accounted for 18% of all electricity use in 2022.

Climate Minister Eamon Ryan said:

"The data centres are a really important and beneficial sector to our country. 

We have a huge advantage in having them here in terms of the potential industries based here that come with it."

Van Caem Launches $1 billion, 100MW Berlin Project

Dutch developer Van Caem, is planning a 100-megawatt data centre nine kilometres from the centre of Berlin, Germany.

It is scheduled to open in 2026.

The €1 billion project will be the largest data centre in Berlin and the fifth largest data centre in Germany.

We are expecting the official announcement on the 28th of June.
