Our first story today is here in the UK. Vantage Data Centres, a leading global provider of hyperscale data centre campuses and a consortium of investors have completed a previously announced investment partnership to fuel Vantage’s growth into the EMEA region. The investment partnership initially consisted of six stabilised data centres in strategic locations around Europe and is valued at approximately €2.5 billion. The data centres span more than 1.8 million gross square feet and around 177MW of IT capacity and are located in key strategic markets.
Our next story is in Ireland. So, Ireland is set to house Europe's first data centre powered exclusively by fuel cells rather than the grid connection as part of a new groundbreaking project. Korean firm SK Eco Plant has signed a memorandum of understanding with Irish power generation company Lumcloon Energy to build a data centre powered by solid oxide fuel cells in County Westmeath, which is around 50 miles West of Dublin. There are no details on the size of the proposed project just yet or the time scale, but as those details are released, we'll be sure to update you.
Our next story is regarding the Spanish construction firm ACS Group. The company this week announced it had acquired a 6.7-hectare parcel of land in Madrid. ACS said the site has a 50MW supply of energy and the data centre will begin operations in 2025. As with the last announcement, the details are currently limited, but we'll be sure to keep you updated on its progression.
Our final story features Colt Data Centre Services. Construction has begun on Colt Data Centre Services third Frankfurt data centre. This facility is set to provide 32.4MW of IT capacity and is located strategically close to the company’s existing Frankfurt data centre. The facility will have direct access to DECIX and will allow all Colt data centres to be powered by 100% renewable energy.
