About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Software Test Engineer to join our dynamic team, focused on ensuring the smooth, reliable, and safe operation of turbine pitch systems and associated electromechanical components such as drives, motors, and inverters. This role is pivotal in maintaining the high standards of quality demanded by the renewable energy sector, particularly within the wind industry.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for software testing combined with hands-on experience in industrial and electromechanical systems, and a strong desire to contribute to advancing sustainable energy technologies. You will play a critical role in verifying system integrity through rigorous testing, helping to optimise performance and reliability in real-world wind turbine applications.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain comprehensive automated Python test scripts for system-level testing of turbine pitch systems and electromechanical components used in the wind industry.
- Conduct hands-on testing on test benches and various hardware setups, validating the functionality and performance of drives, motors, and inverters.
- Analyse and interpret test results in detail to identify bugs, highlight areas for improvement, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Prepare detailed, clear, and concise test reports and documentation to communicate findings effectively to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with design, development, and manufacturing teams to provide feedback and insights, ensuring quality assurance throughout the product life-cycle.
- Work within the context of wind industry challenges, applying best practices to test complex electromechanical software systems under variable environmental conditions.
- Continuously improve testing processes and automation frameworks tailored to the needs of wind turbine software and hardware integration.
What We're Looking For
- Approximately 5 years of hands-on software testing experience in electromechanical or industrial systems, with demonstrable experience in the wind industry.
- Proven proficiency in Python scripting for developing automated system validation and testing suites.
- Practical experience testing electromechanical components such as drives, motors, or inverters, preferably within wind turbine systems or similar industrial environments.
- Familiarity with instrumentation, test benches, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and other hardware validation methods used in electromechanical systems.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret complex test data and diagnose system behaviours accurately.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a track record of collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices relevant to wind turbine systems and electromechanical testing is highly advantageous.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement in testing methodologies aligned with the renewable energy sector.
