Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Transmission Line Engineer to join our diverse and inclusive team. Responsibilities
- Design and engineer high-voltage transmission lines (69kV?500kV+) with a focus on safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness
- Utilize PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE software for modeling, analysis, and design optimization of transmission lines and structures
- Develop and optimize transmission structures including steel poles, lattice towers, and wood structures, ensuring compliance with NESC, GO-95, and utility design standards
- Coordinate foundation and geotechnical requirements for transmission structures
- Conduct line routing and alignment studies with sensitivity to environmental and community impact
- Perform structural load calculations and line loading analysis considering wind, ice, and clearance criteria
- Prepare construction packages including detailed engineering drawings and documentation
- Support reconductoring and transmission line upgrade projects as well as generation interconnection cut-in/cut-out designs
- Collaborate cross-disciplinarily with substation, civil, and environmental teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions
- Assist in cost estimation and provide engineering support during the construction phase
- Integrate GIS, survey data, LiDAR, and terrain modeling into design workflows to enhance accuracy and efficiency
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field; advanced degrees a plus
- Proven experience in transmission line design engineering (69kV?500kV+ overhead lines)
- Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and GIS software tools
- Solid understanding of NESC, GO-95, and other relevant utility design standards and regulations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while meeting deadlines
- Experience with reconductoring, transmission line upgrades, and generation interconnection is desirable
Day-to-Day Activities
- Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to develop and finalize transmission line designs
- Perform structural and load analyses using PLS-CADD/PLS-POLE and interpret results to optimize designs
- Review and update engineering drawings and documentation to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance
- Participate in coordination meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Use GIS and survey data to support routing studies and terrain assessments
- Provide technical support during construction phases to resolve engineering issues and ensure project success
- Continuously engage in professional development to stay current with industry standards and emerging technologies
